Santa Catarina nightlife: where to go and where to skip

Where locals go

Lagoa da Conceição is the honest nightlife capital. Rua das Rendeiras and the streets around it: Bar do Deca for chopp R$9 and Wednesday MPB, Zé Mané in Centro Lagoa for a rougher crowd, Sótão do Sub for indie music with R$18 cocktails. Barra da Lagoa has surfer bars — Boteco da Barra for cold beer with a river view, R$12 the long-neck. Centro Florianópolis has grown a young craft-beer scene along Rua Almirante Alvim: Cervejaria Cavalo Louco, honest prices, R$18 pints.

Where to skip

Jurerê Internacional's beach clubs — Café de la Musique, Parador, P12 — have entry fees of R$150-R$400, drinks R$45-R$85, and it feels like São Paulo in a swimsuit. Fine if that's the trip you booked. Not fine if you thought R$ prices would be honest. Praia dos Ingleses main strip: touristy, overpriced, mostly Argentine package tourism. Downtown Rua Bocaiúva late night has occasional trouble; go elsewhere.

Live music and something different

John Bull Pub in Lagoa for Thursday jazz, no cover. Mercado Público upstairs on Friday evenings — the whole upper level becomes an open-air samba bar, chopp R$8, R$15 the pastel. Casa d’Italia in Centro for tango on the last Saturday of the month, R$25 cover. In Rosa, Urucum and Miolo host live música brasileira until 01:00 most weekends, no cover, drinks R$18-R$28.
